Adult Psychotherapy
As adults we are not fixed in our development, rather we are fluid and flexible beings with great capacity for change to grow cognitively and psychologically throughout our lifetime. This maturation process can be interfered with by relational difficulties, personal concerns or a belief system that negatively impacts one’s self-awareness. It is most keenly realized at midlife when the opportunity for transformation is at its height. Psychotherapy, while usually sought out to treat symptoms, can be most supportive during this juncture of our life’s journey.
Many people I work with are seeking support for discovering this very personal journey. I apply a holistic view in my practice considering all the aspects of the individual as we together explore ineffective patterns of behavior and thinking and increase self-awareness and personal vision.
For women, the path of integrating the whole self is an integral part of this journey of life. It can include those parts that have been deemed unsavory or not “nice girl” material, yet seem to insist on being heard.
If you wish to focus on a particular issue I use short-term goal oriented strategies. For more complex issues or deeper work, I use insight-oriented approaches which can last for a longer term. In either case I do not believe therapy should last forever and I will work with you to determine when the therapy should end.
